Master division with larger numbers! Learn to divide using partial quotients, the standard algorithm, and interpret remainders in real-world contexts.
Divide numbers like 2,856 / 7 using place value
Flexible method using "friendly" multiples
Traditional long division with understanding
Interpret remainders in word problem contexts
Division is the inverse of multiplication. If 7 x 8 = 56, then 56 / 7 = 8 and 56 / 8 = 7. Use multiplication facts to help divide!
Subtract "chunks" of the divisor until you reach zero or a remainder. For 156 / 6: subtract 6x20=120, then 6x6=36. Quotient: 20+6=26.
Divide digit by digit from left to right. Remember: Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Bring down - but understand WHY each step works!
Remainders mean different things! Sometimes round up (need extra buses), sometimes drop (full groups only), sometimes express as fraction.
