Read and write numbers through the millions place
Standard, word, and expanded form for large numbers
Use place value to compare multi-digit numbers
Round numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1,000, and beyond
Each place is 10 times the value of the place to its right. The pattern extends: ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, millions.
Use periods (groups of three) to read large numbers: 4,527,836 is "four million, five hundred twenty-seven thousand, eight hundred thirty-six."
Break apart by place value: 3,405,072 = 3,000,000 + 400,000 + 5,000 + 70 + 2. Zero placeholders don't need terms.
Identify the rounding place, find the benchmarks, and determine which is closer. Use number lines for visualization.
